Santuario’s Computer Literacy Program
Roland R. Esguerra
Click… browser… chat… internet… Microsoft Office… Windows 7… YouTube… Facebook… are some common terminologies for the youth and even for the oldies these days.
Many of our young people today are very much aware of the technological advancement and even own some gizmos that to some, are an indication somewhat of social status. What about the others, the children who have not even used a computer ever?
The Santuario initiated a computer literacy program that aims to teach the less fortunate youngsters. They started with the youth from the communities nearby and others who simply wanted to learn, refresh and “be aware”.
It is developed to equip those interested among our youth with enough knowledge to keep them updated on the technology. The program started last October 9 and will run through the second week of December.
The program was divided into three classes. On Saturdays, the high school level has the 1 pm to 3 pm time slot followed by the elementary level with the 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm time slot. On Sundays, at 10:30 am to 12:30 pm the college level and others interested will have their turn at learning basic and advanced Microsoft Office applications and from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm basic computer knowledge and troubleshooting will be tackled.
The program also incorporates communications training and practiced during the course of the classes. Competent trainers facilitate the program and are well oriented to help the participants.

Seminary Scholarship Program
by Sem. Eugenio Navida Jr., CM
The celebration of the 350th death anniversary of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louis de Marillac attests to the continuation of the legacy of these two great saints. This is a year-long celebration for the whole Vincentian Family worldwide. The Santuario de San Vicente de Paul keeps this legacy by starting yet another program, the Santuario de San Vicente Scholarship Program. This scholarship program aims to help poor but deserving students who would become future leaders and sharers of hope to others. The Santuario draws its inspiration from our Patron, St. Vincent himself, who during his adolescent years, was eager to finish his studies. Unfortunately, his poor family could not afford to send him to school. It was through the benevolence of a certain rich man, Monsieur de Comet, that the young Vincent was able to go to school. His studies became the doorway for his future ministry in serving the poor. Similarly, with this scholarship program, the Santuario hopes to be able to help poor but deserving students to fulfill their dreams. Currently, the program is serving three students who are taking technical courses in college. These students are also given values and human formation, and English proficiency tutorial sessions by the Pre-Internal Seminarians from St. Vincent Seminary. They also serve as working students in the Santuario on Sundays and special events.
At present, the Santuario de San Vicente Scholarship program has only Fr. Mario Colina, CM as its sponsor. The Santuario is presently looking for generous sponsors who will share in its dream to continue its efforts and commitment in forming future leaders and in giving more opportunities for the poor but deserving students. It would also be an opportunity for the sponsors to share their blessings and defray the scholar’s expenses such as tuition fee and daily allowance.
Youth Club at Santuario
The 14 students of the Institute of Formation, Fondacio Asia (IFF Asia) who came from Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, China, and Philippines facilitated a youth club to 19 teenagers and 20 children of Santuario de San Vicente de Paul last August 14, 2010 from 9 am to 12 noon held at the Columbary Lobby with the theme: “Let’s Hang Out!” A club is a Fondacio youth activity with different components that combines fun, food, learning and prayer. The day has been a fun-filled day for everyone both for the students of IFF Asia and the children and youth of Santuario. Club will be a monthly activity at Santuario and the next club will be held on September 18, 2010. The students are hopeful to have more youth to attend on this activity as it will help the youth to meet new friends, have fun, learn more about things that interest them and pray with others.
