Dental Mission

Alpha Phi Omega-NU Chapter Conducts Dental Mission

By Dr. Joey Alegado, DMD

Last August 22, 2010, the Alpha Phi Omega – Nu Chapter (Manila Central University) participated in a service of Dental Mission held at the St. Vincent Medical and Dental Clinic of Santuario de San Vicente de Paul at Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

In cooperation with the chapter’s alumni and the current NU collegiate council, the participants served the needs of the community by conducting the Dental Mission that involved dental check-ups, tooth extraction and other oral health concerns.

The medical students and dentists from Manila Central University rendered their dental services and assisted with the event’s needs during the half-day dental mission.  The service started 8:00 am and ended at 1:00 pm.

At least 30 patients were attended and served with their dental concerns of tooth extractions, and dental consultations.  Free medicines were also distributed to the patients who underwent check-ups and dental care procedures.

Our cooperative dentists who took part and cooperated with the event included Dr. Joey Alegado with his wife – Dra. Reggina Alegado and Dra. Cai Cordero, all loyal alumni from the NU chapter. The chapter’s collegiate Grand Chancellor Chris Noel Concepcion also cooperated in the event, with Maureen Savares (pledgee). Also need to mention the cooperation of Dr. Luningning Anza-Yap, who also participated in making this event possible, pledged the dental anesthesia, needles, gloves and medicines. The success of this mission would not be fulfilled without the presence of our friends from Saint Vincent Seminary and Santuario de San Vicente de Paul especially Ms. Norma S. Manalili (Coordinator), Bro. Nelson P. Boren (OIC, Pastoral Services), Dr. Teresita N. Agda, MD (Consultant), Fr. Rolando A. Tuazon, CM (Administrator/ Project Coordinator).

The doctors, students and staff who participated in the mission, surely felt a sense of fulfillment with the smiles on the patients’ faces after their dental needs were attended. This is just one of the many events of our brotherhood that develops leadership, promotes friendship and renders services to the community and our fellowmen especially those who are in need.

Alpha Phi Omega NU Chapter residents and alumni members is looking forward to be part with the St. Vincent Medical and Dental Clinic of Santuario de San Vicente de Paul’s continuing service to the poor.
