Saint Vincent Medical and Dental Clinic

The St. Vincent Medical & Dental Clinic (SVMDC) was launched last September 27, 2009 coinciding with the launching of the 350th death anniversary of St. Vincent de Paul. The clinic is Santuario’s concrete response in addressing the medical concerns of the indigents of our communities who are living within the vicinity of St. Vincent Seminary. The idea of a “clinic for the masses” came about in the Pastoral Management Team, which was then headed by Fr. Rolando A Tuazon, CM, (now the Santuario’s administrator and project director) after a series of sessions with the Santuario community.

SVMDC was formally launched on September 27, 2009, and was witnessed by a team of volunteer doctors, dentists, and nurses, and the lay community; and to think that SVMDC had humble beginnings.

When it first started, there were not enough facilities for the dental and medical clinic. Believing in people’s generosity, Fr. Tuazon still pursued this initiative and created a Management Team to help build the clinic’s resources. After series of announcements for aid during Sunday masses, people started responding. Each came and expressed their support to the project until the clinic became fully operational. And on June 20, 2010, through a donation by a generous doctor, the clinic acquired its second hand, yet highly maintained dental chair and a dental x-ray.

To date, SVMDC has a reliable team of doctors, nurses, dentists and other volunteers who take turns in providing quality medical services for the poor in the Santuario vicinity, free of charge. There are 10 doctors in different fields of specializations (General Medicine, Obstetrics-Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology etc…), 13 dentists, 3 nurses, and an increasing number of volunteers that has so far, served 2,095 patients.

The St. Vincent Medical and Dental Clinic is located at the ground floor of the Seminary building and is open every Sunday from 9 am till 12 noon. Patients come on a first-come- first-served basis.

The St. Vincent Medical and Dental Clinic (SVMDC) will inaugurate its 1st year anniversary on September 26, 2010. Volunteer doctors headed by Dra. Teresita Agda, MD and other members of the management team including Dra. Mercy Agustin, MD and Ms. Norma Manalili as coordinator, among others. Activities planned for September 26, 2010 (Sunday) is a Thanksgiving Mass at 7:30 am where all volunteer dentists, paramedics, as well as the patients who have benefitted from this program will be invited. During the mass, all will be acknowledged for their generosity and participation in sharing their time and resources and for the services they rendered in helping alleviate the physical condition of the poor among us.

Then the blessing of a better appointed clinic will be done after the mass to be followed by a medical mission without any fanfare. Various health awareness workshops on diabetes, dengue, and infectious diseases by our volunteer specialists from 1:00pm-3:00pm will follow.

The medical team considers this occasion a thanksgiving to God for the many blessings received through the prayers and intercession of St. Vincent de Paul through people’s generosity. Through this effort, it is fervently hoped that the clinic will grow and expand to continue serving more indigent patients in the community.

Many thanks to our selfless team of volunteers who gave their time and resources for this projects
